Collect and share a support report
When GitTree catches an error it saves a report on this computer; nothing is sent anywhere. Report a Bug… shows what would be copied (the saved report with tokens and passwords removed, or a short summary), lets you choose, then opens the support form on the GitTree website for you to paste it. Contact Support… writes to the support address.
Works in GitTree Free: every local Git feature, once you are signed in.
On this page
Before you start
- A GitTree account on the website, to open a support ticket.
Where to find it
- The bug button in the tab bar, Support in the status bar, the crash window, or the palette: Report a Bug…, Crash Reports…, Contact Support….
| Action | macOS | Windows and Linux |
|---|---|---|
| The command palette | ⌘⇧P | Ctrl+Shift+P |
Steps
Open Report a Bug
Choose Report a Bug…, or Report a Bug in the crash window.
Choose what to copy
Read the saved report or the summary and choose one. GitTree copies it.
Paste it in the ticket
Your browser opens the support form on the website: paste it into the description, add what you were doing, and send. To share everything, attach the file from Show Report File.
Expected result
Support has the error, what led to it and your system, and you saw every word first.
Add the activity log
For a Git problem, Export… in the Activity Log saves every git command with its output, with tokens and credentials in URLs removed (Inspect activity and notifications). Read it before you attach it.
If something goes wrong
“The browser could not be opened. The report form is at …”
Open that address yourself; the report is already copied.
Questions
Does GitTree send crash reports by itself?
No. Reports stay on your computer; you decide what to copy and where to paste it.
