A repository will not open
When a folder cannot be opened, GitTree says why and offers the next step: This folder is not a Git repository (initialize or choose another), This cannot be opened as a repository (missing path), GitTree cannot read this folder (permissions), or This repository belongs to another user (Git’s ownership check).
Works in GitTree Free: every local Git feature, once you are signed in.

| Open a repository | ⌘O | Ctrl+O |
Steps
Not a Git repository
No repository was found at or above the folder. Choose Initialize Repository… to make one there, or Choose Another Folder….
Cannot read the folder
Check its permissions. On macOS, if it says macOS is blocking access to this folder, grant GitTree access in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files and Folders.
Belongs to another user
Git refuses repositories owned by another account. If you trust it, choose Trust This Folder…; GitTree never changes Git’s safety settings on its own.
Expected result
The repository opens, or you know exactly what blocks it.
If something goes wrong
A saved repository in the workspace no longer opens
It was moved or deleted. Remove it from the workspace and open its new location (Manage saved repositories).
Questions
What is restricted mode?
A repository you have not trusted opens in restricted mode, so its hooks and settings do not run code. See Repository trust.
