Find and change Preferences
Preferences has a page per area, such as General, Profiles, SSH, Integrations, Nour (AI), External Tools and UI Customization, plus Repo-Specific Preferences for each open repository. Search preferences finds a setting by name, description or key, and each setting says where it Saves to: App, Profile or Repository.
Works in GitTree Free: every local Git feature, once you are signed in.
On this page
Before you start
- Nothing. Repository settings need that repository open.
Where to find it
- The palette or the app menu: Preferences; Exit Preferences closes it.

Steps
Open Preferences
Press the shortcut, or choose Preferences in the command palette.
Search or pick a page
Type in Search preferences, or pick a page from the list. Under Repo-Specific Preferences, choose a repository to change its own settings.
Check where it saves
Each setting shows Saves to. A repository value overrides your profile’s, which overrides the app’s.
Undo an override
Reset removes the value at this scope and reveals the one underneath, which may not be the built-in default.
Expected result
The setting changes where you meant it to, for the app, a profile or one repository.
Pages
- General: Git program, pull mode, auto-fetch, rebase, line endings, logging.
- Profiles, SSH and Commit Signing: who you commit as and how you connect and sign.
- Account and Integrations: your GitTree sign-in and connected hosting accounts.
- Nour (AI), External Tools, Notifications, UI Customization, Editor, In-App Terminal and Experimental.
If something goes wrong
“This setting is saved per repository. Choose a repository under Repo-Specific Preferences.”
Open the repository, then pick it under Repo-Specific Preferences.
