Connect GitHub
Connecting GitHub lets GitTree list your repositories, pull requests, issues and checks. Sign in with your browser (recommended: you approve GitTree on GitHub’s own page) or use a personal access token. The token is kept only in your system’s keychain.
Needs GitTree Pro or a running trial; Free keeps every local Git feature. Compare the plans.

Before you start
- GitTree Pro or a running trial: hosting integrations are part of Pro (Free and Pro).
- A GitHub account. For GitHub Enterprise Server, see Connect enterprise and self-hosted servers.
Where to find it
- Preferences › Integrations › Connected accounts: Connect GitHub….

Steps
Start connecting
In Connected accounts choose Connect GitHub….
Sign in with the browser
Choose Sign In with the Browser. Press Copy Code and Open github.com, paste the one-time code on the page that opens, select Continue, then Authorize.
Or use a token
Choose Enter a Personal Access Token…. Scopes the token needs lists what to tick; Copy the Scope List and Open the Token Page help you create it. The token is typed into your system’s own secure dialog, never into GitTree’s window.
Check the account
GitTree says … on GitHub is connected. The account card shows the login, and Default for the account used on github.com.
Expected result
Your GitHub repositories, pull requests, issues and checks appear in GitTree.
Keep the account working
- A banner says The token expires on … before it does; Renew or Reconnect replaces it.
- Make Default chooses which of several GitHub accounts is used first.
- Disconnect… removes the token from the keychain; repositories fall back to your own credential helpers. To revoke it on GitHub too, Open the Provider’s Page.
If something goes wrong
“The code expired before it was used.”
Choose Start Over for a new code and paste it within its time limit.
“Needs reconnecting”
GitHub no longer accepts the token (it expired or was revoked). Press Reconnect.
Questions
Does connecting GitHub change how git pushes?
No. For Git over HTTPS your own credential helpers keep answering first; an account fills in only when they have nothing, or when you choose it for a repository.
