GitTree
Troubleshooting

Changes are not refreshing

GitTree notices edits made in other programs through your system’s change notifications. On WSL folders and network shares those notifications do not arrive, so Automatic checks the folder every few seconds instead. If changes still appear late, force the checking mode for that repository or refresh by hand.

FreeUpdated

Works in GitTree Free: every local Git feature, once you are signed in.

Before you start

  • The repository is open and you know which edits are missing.

Where to find it

  • Preferences › Repo-Specific Preferences › Notice file changes by; the palette: Refresh Files.
ActionmacOSWindows and Linux
The command palette⌘⇧PCtrl+Shift+P

Steps

  1. Refresh by hand

Choose Refresh Files in the palette and check whether the change appears.

  2. Change how it notices

In Repo-Specific Preferences, set Notice file changes by to Checking every few seconds for a WSL folder, a network share or a synced folder.

  3. Speed up a large repository

Run Speed up status in Repository Maintenance… so each check is quicker (maintenance).

Expected result

Edits made outside GitTree appear in the working changes within seconds.

If something goes wrong

A file you changed never appears

It may be ignored by .gitignore, or marked assume-unchanged or skip-worktree (Index flags).

Questions

Does checking every few seconds slow the computer?

A little on very large repositories; use it only where change notifications do not work.
