Getting started

Use local Git for free and understand Pro

Every local Git feature in GitTree is free for everyone who signs in with a GitTree account. GitTree Pro adds Nour, the hosting integrations and AI drafting; you can try them with a free trial that starts only when you ask for it.

FreeUpdated

Works in GitTree Free: every local Git feature, once you are signed in.

Before you start

  • Current prices, offers and the trial length are on the Pricing page; this page explains what each plan unlocks in the app.

Where to find it

  • The plan badge in GitTree names your plan: Free, Pro, a Pro trial with the days left, or Pro through an organization. Selecting it opens your plan on gittree.app.
  • Locked features say they are part of GitTree Pro where you would use them, instead of disappearing.

Steps

  1. Use everything local, for free

Opening, cloning and creating repositories, the commit graph, staging and committing, branches and tags, fetch, pull and push with your own Git credentials, merge, rebase, conflicts, history editing, Undo, stashes, worktrees, the file browser, the terminal and every preference work in Free. Signing in with your GitTree account is all it takes, for private and commercial work alike.

  2. Know what Pro adds

Pro unlocks Nour, the assistant; the hosting integrations (provider accounts, pull requests, issues and CI/CD runs inside the app); and AI drafting of commit messages and pull request descriptions. Each locked control says it is part of GitTree Pro.

  3. Start a trial only if you want one

Installing or signing in never starts a trial. After you sign in, GitTree offers your account’s Pro trial once if it can still start one: choose Start trial, or Not now to skip it. The trial is once per device and once per account, and GitTree’s service decides whether one is still available.

  4. Keep working when the trial or a paid period ends

When Pro access ends, GitTree goes back to Free: your repositories, history and settings stay, and every local Git feature keeps working. Pro features show what they need again, and Resubscribe is offered.

Expected result

The plan badge shows the plan in effect. If you have Pro through an organization, it names the organization.

If something goes wrong

“This device already used its free trial”

A trial runs once per device. Sign in to see whether your account can start one, or see the plans on the Pricing page.

“Pro features are paused”

GitTree could not verify your Pro access (offline, or its service did not answer). Free local Git keeps working; choose Try again when you are back online.

Questions

Is GitTree free for commercial use?

Yes. GitTree Free covers the full local Git client for private and commercial work, on macOS, Windows and Linux, with a GitTree account and no payment.

Does the trial turn into a paid subscription?

No. Nothing renews automatically. When the trial ends you are on Free unless you choose to buy Pro.
