What’s new in GitTree

New features, improvements and fixes in every version of GitTree, newest first. Each version is free for macOS, Windows and Linux.

  1. Version 2.2.1

    Latest

GitTree 2.2.1 adds Markdown previews in their own tabs and improves desktop menus across macOS, Windows and Linux.

    New

    • Markdown preview tabs

Open a Markdown file preview in its own tab in the file browser.

    • In-window menus on Windows and Linux

Press Alt to reveal the in-window menu bar and access desktop commands.

    Improved

    • The macOS menu bar now uses the same command registry as the app, keeping available commands consistent.

    Fixed

    • Cleaned up the small macOS app icon and removed the Services menu.

  2. Version 2.2.0

GitTree 2.2 brings suggested changes in pull requests, a provider check of commit signatures and a quicker sign-in. Official builds now ask you to sign in.

    New

    • Suggested changes in pull requests

Suggestions from GitHub, GitLab and Azure DevOps appear as cards in a pull request's conversation and Files tab. Apply one or a batch as a commit on the pull request's branch, or suggest a change from the line comment box.

    • Signatures checked on the provider

The commit view shows GitHub's or GitLab's verdict on a commit's signature beside GitTree's own check, and keeps both in view when they disagree. Check Signature on the Provider (Alt+V) reads it again.

    • Sign in to use GitTree

Official builds now show the Sign in to GitTree dialog whenever you are signed out: sign in or create an account to continue. Free keeps the full local Git client, and an eligible account is offered its Pro trial once after signing in.

    Improved

    • After you sign in through the browser, GitTree shows your account at once instead of waiting for the account checks to finish.
    • The sign-in dialog always shows the field for entering the authentication code by hand, and takes a pasted code in one step.

  3. Version 2.1.0

GitTree 2.1 brings Repo Insights in a window of its own, a Ship Preview before every push, guided squashing and fixup commits, and many fixes to rebase, undo, stashes and conflicts.

    New

    • Repo Insights, in its own window

Insights (Alt+I) opens Repo Insights beside your work. Run a report to see a repository's commits, lines and files over time and who contributed, counted on this computer. Running reports is part of Pro; reports you kept stay readable.

    • Export and share reports

Export a report as CSV or JSON, save it to your account, or share it with your organization as a Team report. A preview shows exactly what leaves your computer first; source code, diffs and commit messages are never sent.

    • Ship Preview before you push

Ship Preview (Alt+Shift+U) shows the commits and files a push sends and their code owners, and with a connected hosting provider the pipelines, environments and branch rules it reaches. A push to a protected branch or environment waits for your confirmation.

    • Environments, roll back and promote

See what is live in each environment, right on the graph. Roll Back… and Promote… redeploy a previous good commit or move one forward, showing what the deploy changes first.

    • A Ship Log of what you shipped

The Activity drawer's Ship Log records each push, run and approval done from GitTree, kept on this computer. Save it as JSON or CSV when you need it.

    • Guided squashing

Squash Commits… (Alt+S), Squash into Parent… (Alt+Q) and Squash Branch… (Alt+Shift+B) open a Squash dialog that shows the result before anything changes. In the graph, hold Alt and drag a commit onto its neighbour to squash the two.

    • Fixup commits and squash merges

Create Fixup Commit… commits what is staged as a fixup for a commit you choose, ready for interactive rebase to fold in. A squash merge now fills the commit box with the commits it brings.

    • See what Nour made

Commits Nour made carry a Nour badge in the graph, the commit view and Create Pull Request, and Forget What Nour Made clears that record. Nour can also list and read the Repo Insights reports you kept.

    Improved

    • Nour's pushes follow the same Ship Preview rules as yours, and its approval card shows what an action ships.
    • A manual CI/CD run that deploys to a protected environment asks you to confirm first.
    • Nour's pop-out chat follows the active repository tab.
    • The terminal drawer steps aside on tabs that have no terminal.

    Fixed

    • Your trust choice for a repository is kept when you change branches.
    • Resolving a submodule conflict takes the chosen side's commit.
    • Editing a conflict resolution by hand keeps the file's CRLF line breaks, and a resolution is never saved over a file that does not read back exactly.
    • Renaming a stash keeps its branch prefix, accepts a message that starts with a dash, and never loses the stash if the rename fails.
    • Discarding a staged rename discards both of its paths, and discarding a staged deletion works when the file is back on disk.
    • A merge's or a stash's files are listed once, against its first parent.
    • Interactive rebase onto a branch that moved on replays onto its current tip, and the editor lists the commits as they are now.
    • Rebase in the diverged-branch dialog keeps every branch it moves.
    • Drop on a branch's tip commit moves the branch to its parent.
    • Undo and Redo keep one step per action in each worktree, explain why a step was refused, and add no step for a refused operation.
    • Hunk and line staging keeps three lines of context, and is refused on a file that changed into a symbolic link.
    • Empty picks and conflicts are shown as stops you can continue, even when the commit's subject reads like an error.
    • Diffs read correctly when diff.suppressBlankEmpty is set in your Git configuration.

  4. Version 2.0.3

GitTree 2.0.3 makes in-app updates on macOS reliable: they no longer depend on mounting a disk image.

    Improved

    • When you install an update by hand on macOS, GitTree unpacks it and shows the new app in Finder.

    Fixed

    • On macOS, updates install from the signed app archive without mounting a disk image, so they no longer stall at the Mount step.

  5. Version 2.0.2

GitTree 2.0.2 keeps the CI/CD button in view and tells you what it needs when CI/CD is not available to you yet.

    Improved

    • The CI/CD toolbar button stays visible when CI/CD is unavailable, explains why, and offers the sign-in or subscription step it needs.
    • Clearer toolbar guidance in English and Arabic, and the CI/CD access menu can be opened and used from the keyboard.

  6. Version 2.0.1

GitTree 2.0.1 polishes the 2.0 release: a clearer Free option, GitTree Learn one click away, and easier public feedback. Update to get the refreshed look, CI/CD runs with live logs, and every 2.0 improvement.

    New

    • A clearer Free option

The guest option is now called Free across the English and Arabic account and billing screens, so it is clear that local Git stays available without paying.

    • GitTree Learn from inside the app

Help and the introductory tips now open the published GitTree Learn website, so guides are one click away.

    • Share your feedback publicly

After you submit an in-app review, GitTree invites you to share it publicly if you would like to.

    Improved

    • Offer amounts are shown in the catalog currency.
    • Pro sign-in wording is clearer.

    Fixed

    • Email is now recognized as an account sign-in provider.

  7. Version 2.0.0

GitTree 2.0 brings Pro and Organization plans, a refreshed workspace, richer CI/CD tools, and faster repository views. Local Git stays available on Free.

    New

    • One free month at launch

Redeem one monthly Pro or Organization period at 100% off during the launch offer. No card is required and nothing renews automatically. Regular prices and eligibility come from the billing service.

    • Plans with an explicit trial choice

Choose Free, start an eligible Pro trial, or redeem the launch offer. Official builds verify premium access with signed entitlement leases; local Git remains available without an account.

    • A richer CI/CD workspace

Explore provider-specific pipelines, run and job details, live logs, and pipeline management where the connected provider supports it.

    • A clearer repository workspace

The refreshed identity, resizable sidebar sections, image diffs, in-file search, and a direct return to the graph help keep repository work together.

    • Branch and repository tools

Drag a branch onto another to merge or rebase, browse pull-request files as a tree, and choose repository maintenance when status or graph loading needs attention.

    Improved

    • Graph reads page ahead within limits, status consumers share reads, and large hunk views mount fewer rows.
    • Background repository watches do less work, with recovery improvements for polled paths and WSL.
    • Pull-request data stays fresher, and job logs explain when no stored log is available.
    • English and Arabic presentation is updated; Arabic translations load when selected.

    Fixed

    • Improved stale-status reconciliation and upstream-distance error handling.
    • Corrected several Windows path and process-launch edge cases.
    • Official builds pin the production entitlement public key; installer verification retains the existing updater trust key.

  8. Version 1.4.0

Meet Nour, GitTree's new AI assistant: an animated companion that chats about your repositories and works through the coding agent you already use. Signing in is now optional, and you can focus the graph on a single branch.

    New

    • Meet Nour, your Git assistant

Nour is a small animated companion on your desktop or inside GitTree. Chat about one repository, several, a workspace or the whole app, and Nour answers or acts through the coding agent you installed and signed in to. Sign in to GitTree to use Nour.

    • Works with the agent you already use

Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Antigravity, Qwen Code, OpenCode, Kimi CLI, Cursor Agent or your own. Auto picks the first agent that works and hands over to the next if it fails. Choose the agent and model for each chat.

    • Ask or Agent, you stay in control

Ask only looks and answers. Agent can stage, commit, branch, push and more, within what you allow in Preferences. Risky actions always ask first, and the file changes of each turn can be undone, per repository.

    • Share files, images and context

Drag files and folders onto the chat or onto Nour on your desktop, attach or paste images, and type @ to mention files, folders, branches, commits, pull requests and settings pages.

    • Focus on a branch

Focus on This Branch shows only the branch, its upstream and its base, marks where it branched off and counts its own commits. Focus on the current branch with Cmd+Shift+B on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+B on Windows and Linux.

    • Use GitTree without an account

Signing in is now optional. Everything local, plus fetch, pull and push with your own keys, works as a guest. Nour and hosting features such as pull requests still need a GitTree account.

    • What's New

After an update, GitTree shows what changed. Open it any time with What’s New… in the command palette, or from the update bar before you install.

    • A pinned Graph tab

The Graph tab sits before your open files, so you can go back to the graph without closing them or losing unsaved edits.

    Improved

    • Author and date filters in the graph load about twice as fast on large repositories.
    • Arabic replies from Nour, and Arabic pull request and issue text, read right to left block by block.
    • Commit message and pull request drafting finds agents installed with nvm, npm, Volta, Bun, pnpm or Homebrew, and waits up to 5 minutes by default.
    • Releases, updates and bug reports now use the new public repository, git-tree-app/gittree.
    • The file tab strip is hidden when no files are open.
    • Relative dates refresh every minute, and the graph repaints when the system theme changes.

    Fixed

    • Updating on macOS no longer fails while mounting the update: the new version's disk image now mounts in seconds.
    • Drafting with Codex and Antigravity no longer hangs or fails.
    • Show Only This Branch is back on branch menus.
    • Arrow keys in a menu no longer move the selection in the graph.
