Why GitTree exists
Most developers spend part of every day reading history, staging changes and untangling branches. The command line is precise but hides the shape of a repository; many visual clients show the shape but put private repositories, Linux builds or careful history editing behind a subscription.
GitTree is built to do both: show the whole repository at a glance, and make the risky parts of Git safer, with conflict warnings before a merge, snapshots before anything destructive and a toolbar Undo, without charging for private repositories and on all three desktop systems.
Every action runs through your own Git, so what GitTree does is exactly what the command line would do, and you can always open the built-in terminal to check.
What we will not compromise on
Your code stays on your computer
GitTree talks only to your remotes, the accounts you connect, the GitTree account service and an update check you can switch off.
Zero telemetry
No analytics, tracking or crash uploads of any kind. Crash reports stay on your computer until you choose to share one.
Your own Git, your own config
GitTree never bundles Git and never edits your Git config, repository or SSH folder without asking.
Honest comparisons
Our comparison pages cite the other products’ official pages, show the date they were checked and say where another tool is the better fit.
Not to be confused with
- GitTree is not the git-tree command-line wrapper or any other terminal tool: it is a desktop app with a graphical interface.
- GitTree is not a website that draws the file tree of a repository: you install it and open your own repositories.
- GitTree is not affiliated with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Microsoft or the Git project; it works with all of them.
Who makes it
GitTree is designed and built by Eslam Faisal, who writes the app, this website and the account service. You can follow the work on LinkedIn and GitHub, where every release is published with its notes.
