GitTree cannot find Git
GitTree uses your own Git installation and never bundles or installs one. If none is found it shows GitTree needs Git; if the one found is older than 2.39 it shows This Git is too old. Install or update Git, or press Locate Git… to choose it, then Check again.
Works in GitTree Free: every local Git feature, once you are signed in.

Install or update Git
On macOS run
xcode-select --installorbrew install git; on Windows install Git for Windows from git-scm.com; on Linux install Git 2.39 or newer, which on Ubuntu 22.04 needsppa:git-core/ppafirst.Point GitTree at it
Press Check again, or Locate Git… and pick the
gitprogram if it is somewhere GitTree does not look.

GitTree starts and runs the Git you installed.
If something goes wrong
“This Git could not be used”
The Git at that path did not answer when asked for its version. Reinstall it, or choose another with Locate Git….
Questions
Why does GitTree not include Git?
So it runs the same Git as your terminal and other tools, with your configuration, and you update it yourself. See Set up Git.
