Use GitTree while offline
GitTree is local-first: every local Git feature works without a connection, including commits, branches, merges, rebases, stashes, history and undo. Fetch, pull, push, hosting integrations, CI/CD and Nour’s provider need the network; while offline GitTree shows the last data it read and says so.
Works in GitTree Free: every local Git feature, once you are signed in.

Before you start
- Sign in to GitTree once while you are online. Fetch before you go offline to have the latest remote branches.
Where to find it
- Messages such as “The provider could not be reached; these are the last known checks.”
| Action | macOS | Windows and Linux |
|---|---|---|
| Fetch when you are back online | ⌘⇧F | Ctrl+Shift+F |
Steps
Work as usual
Stage, commit, branch, merge, rebase and stash as you normally do: these need no connection.
Read what is cached
Pull requests, issues and checks show the last copy GitTree read, marked as possibly out of date.
Sync when back online
Fetch, then push your commits. Auto-fetch resumes by itself.
Expected result
Your local work continues offline and syncs when you reconnect.
Version check in official builds
Official builds check from time to time that their version is still supported. After more than 7 days without reaching GitTree’s service, the app says GitTree needs to check in and asks you to connect and check again. Your repositories are not affected.
If something goes wrong
Pro features stop working while offline for a long time
When GitTree cannot check your trial or plan, Pro features return once it can. Free local Git keeps working.
Questions
Do I need a GitTree account to use it offline?
You sign in once, which needs a connection. After that GitTree restores your session without the internet, and local Git keeps working offline.
